We had a great New Year's Eve!
Our friend JJ came over in the late afternoon. We started a fire outside in the fire pit, and the weather was pleasant and mild. We paced ourselves quite responsibly with our alcoholic beverages (seriously, experience comes in handy sometimes!). We exchanged our Christmas gifts, had some nice cheeses and crackers, then assembled the ingredients for the lasagna. Don shucked the 2 dozen oysters JJ had special ordered from the local fish shop, and we arranged them on a big platter of snow, ans slowly devoured them all!
Oh, they were a delight.
Then we headed down into the basement and worked on a new song, and it really came off great. A song we snagged by these two guys.. we had a ball getting that together.
Back upstairs, and it was time for the beef and spinach lasagna, fancy green salad and fluffy bread with JJ's homemade garlic butter spread. Oy. After dinner and a small cup of strong coffee, it was back down to the basement for more work on the song, and then a few more songs for good measure. Back upstairs by 11:40 to watch the ball drop in NYC on the television, and one small flute each of a fairly decent cheap bottle of bubbly. We toasted in 2011 and stayed up for a couple more hours.. I was in bed a little before 3 a.m. and slept like a baby until 9:30 or so.
We put together a lovely brunch of scrambled eggs, buttery croissants, lean breakfast sausage, strawberries and grapes and mimosa's with the leftover bubbly.
It was all such a sweet celebration to 2011.
